The Blueprint: Launching in Brazil
A high-level structural overview of the requirements for establishing a compliant, scalable digital retail operation in the Brazilian market.
Phase 1: Legal & Fiscal Structure
Do not attempt to operate an e-commerce at scale using a CPF (individual taxpayer registry). Professionalize immediately.
- CNPJ Registration: Determine if you qualify for MEI (Microempreendedor Individual) based on revenue caps, or if an ME (Microempresa) under Simples Nacional is required.
- Inscrição Estadual (IE): Mandatory for the commercialization of physical goods. This allows you to issue the Electronic Invoice (NF-e).
- Digital Certificate: Acquire an A1 or A3 digital certificate, required by your ERP to validate and transmit invoices to the SEFAZ (Secretariat of Finance).
Phase 2: The Technological Stack
The core triad of your operation must communicate flawlessly via API.
- The Storefront: The e-commerce platform (e.g., Shopify, Nuvemshop) handles the UI, UX, and catalog presentation.
- The ERP (Backoffice): Systems like Bling or Tiny are non-negotiable. They manage inventory synchronization, emit NF-e, and print shipping labels.
- The Gateway: Your payment processor. Ensure it handles anti-fraud natively, offers transparent checkout, and supports instant Pix confirmation.
Phase 3: Sourcing & Logistics
Your supply chain is your ultimate competitive advantage.
- Supplier Integration: Whether utilizing national dropshipping, cross-docking, or holding physical inventory, define the data flow between supplier stock and your storefront.
- Shipping Gateways: Integrate systems like Melhor Envio or Frenet to provide dynamic, multi-carrier shipping quotes at checkout, reducing cart abandonment.
- Packaging: Ensure packaging meets carrier specifications to avoid volumetric weight penalties, while providing an unboxing experience that encourages retention.
